"They use their bicycles to go to work. They carry their child on the bike to drop him off at school on the way. They leave their bike at a bicycle parking lot where for a few cents a man watches it. Most bikes look very old, covered in rust, and with patched seats. They must keep them well repaired. The bikes have baskets for shopping. During rush hour the wide bike lanes are filled with hundreds of bikes. No one wears a helmet and no one speeds. They all move at the same moderate speed."
